1. What this is
The Underplay is a marketplace and editorial publication for the live music scene in interior British Columbia (and outward). You can browse listings, submit your own shows, releases, and tips, and pitch written content for publication. It's free.
2. Beta status
We're in public beta. The site may be unreliable, change shape without warning, lose data, or be taken offline for periods. We're trying not to do any of that — but you've been told.
3. Your account
We use email magic links instead of passwords. You're responsible for the email account you sign in with. If your inbox is compromised, your Underplay account is too — let us know fast at support@theunderplay.com and we'll invalidate active sessions.
4. Submissions
When you submit a show, drop, tip, or written piece, you're giving The Underplay a non-exclusive license to publish, edit, and distribute that submission in connection with the site and our channels (newsletter, social). You keep ownership of your stuff. We won't sell your submissions to anyone.
An editor reviews every submission. We can publish, edit, hold, or reject anything at our discretion. If we reject a piece, we try to say why.
5. What you can't do
- Submit shows, releases, or content you don't have rights to.
- Impersonate a band, venue, or person you're not.
- Post anything illegal under Canadian law — including hate speech, harassment, or threats.
- Spam the submission queue. Repeated junk gets your email blocked.
- Scrape or auto-pull from this site without asking first.
6. Tickets and money
We don't sell tickets. When you tap a tickets link, you're going to a third party (Ticketmaster, Showpass, Eventbrite, the venue's own page). We don't take a cut and we're not responsible for what they charge, how they handle refunds, or whether the link still works on their end.
7. Editorial independence
Coverage decisions are ours. Submitting a show, paying for a future featured slot, or having a personal relationship with the editor doesn't guarantee — or block — coverage. If you spot a conflict of interest in something we've published, tell us and we'll add a note.
8. Privacy, in short
We collect: your email (when you sign in or submit), what you submit, basic server logs. We don't track you across the web, and we don't run an ad network. We use Vercel, Railway, Anthropic, Ticketmaster, and Google Workspace as service providers. Their handling of data falls under their policies.
You can ask us to delete your account and your submissions at any time — email support@theunderplay.com.
9. As-is, no warranty
The site is provided as-is. We don't warrant that listings are accurate, that shows will happen as posted, that links work, or that the site will be up tomorrow. Verify with the venue before driving across the province.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Canadian law, The Underplay and the people behind it aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site. If a court decides we are liable for something, the most you can recover is what you paid us in the last 12 months, which is zero.
11. Termination
You can stop using the site any time. We can suspend or remove accounts and submissions that violate these terms or applicable law. We try to give a heads-up first when it's a close call.
12. Changes to these terms
We'll update this page when the terms change. Material changes will be flagged at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new version.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of British Columbia.
14. Contact
For anything — questions about these terms, takedown requests, editorial pitches, partnerships, mistakes — email support@theunderplay.com.
